History
Pentecostal Youth Conference of Dallas (PYCD) is celebrating its 27th year. It started as a conference 26 years ago when few brothers perceived the need for a united conference in the city. Brothers Babu George, Babu K. Iype, Jose Prakash, Toms Koruthu, Abraham Thomas, and Abraham Mathew were instrumental in making this conference a reality in 1982. The first convener of the conference was Bro. Babu George and the Coordinator was Bro. Babu K. Iype. Even though some of the churches stayed away from it in the beginning, the first conference was a great success. More than 250 people attended the first one-day seminar, where Dr. Ezhamkulam Samkutty was the guest speaker. The first conference was divided into 2 sessions. The morning sessions were devoted to different activities done by the participating churches.
During the year 1983, in addition to the one-day seminar, an annual convention was also conducted on a weekend in December. Dr. Joseph Padinjarakara (Canada) was the guest speaker for the seminar and convention. The administrative structure of PYCD was changed in 1985 by making a local pastor the Convener with the assistance of a Youth Coordinator, Sunday School Coordinator, and a Treasurer.
PYCD instituted the Annual Youth Competition in 1992. The first competition was a great success. In 1999, PYCD introduced the Youth Festival (Anniversary), which concluded the programs for the year. Sports competitions were also added to the activities of PYCD. Since then, the talent competitions, annual Conference and sports competitions have become an integral part of yearly activities of PYCD. In 2002, after years of planning and discussion, and long hours of labor, PYCD was able to compile guidelines for the administration in the coming years. All the member churches approved it and it came into effect on the day of the 2003 General Body.
This fellowship that started as a weekend conference has now grown into the only youth
organization in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, which brings together all the churches
with various programs through out the year.
PYCD’s vision is to edify, educate and promote unity among Malayalee
Pentecostal youth, through programs and activities that bring glory to God, fulfilling the
great commission and contributing to the continuing propagation of the gospel till the
second coming of Christ.
The 2008 leadership pledges to work towards ensuring that PYCD meets the aspirations and expectations of the youth of the city. The committee resolves to work to transform this organization such that the youth of the city will take pride in it and also take the ownership of the success of PYCD.
